Ethical policies
Conflict Diamonds
These are diamonds obtained from parts of Africa where illegal militia exploit small scale miners in order to support civil war and conflict.
In a reaction to this, a certification scheme called the Kimberly Process was founded in 2003 by the United Nations as a means of ensuring diamonds sourced under such circumstances to not enter the supply chain. The aim being to ensure that consumers purchasing diamonds can be sure they are not inadvertently funding war or human rights abuse.
A strict monitoring on a governmental level is now in place to determine that the trade of rough diamonds happens only between those countries participating in the process under strictly monitored conditions.
Approximately 70 countries now participate in the Kimberley Process and today it covers over 99% of the world diamond trade. The conditions and terms of the Kimberly Process are under constant review ensuring that up to date and accurate picture of the diamond trade is reported and each associated country maintains its conflict free status.
The diamonds sourced by Annaloucah have been purchased only from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict in compliance with the United Nations regulations. Anna therefore guarantee’s that all diamonds used are conflict free to the best of her knowledge after personal communication and assurance from her suppliers.
Gem stones
All gemstones are sourced and selected from the best quality stones from Anna’s suppliers at the time that the order is placed. Every effort is made to determine the origin and provenance of the gemstones used both precious and semiprecious and therefore minimise negative environmental and social impact . However due to the complex supply chains involved with coloured gemstones this is a not always possible. Development in this area is one of Anna’s continuing investigation and research. For further information please contact Annaloucah directly.
Precious metals As a new Fairtrade Fairmined gold licence holder, Annaloucah is proud to support this standard and offer it by way of purchase or commission to all future clients. All gold to date used in Anna’s pieces is recycled (excluding chain and findings) in an effort to minimise the environmental and ethical impact incurred by gold mining. With this in mind Anna is happy to use customers own stones or metal thus ensuring the jewellery you receive is created with consideration and environmental sensitivity. For more information please contact Annaloucah directly.
